The International Association of Infant Food Manufacturers (IFM) recognises, supports and promotes breastfeeding as the best way to feed a baby. Breastfeeding offers many advantages for both mother and baby, and, without question, provides the best start in life. When breastfeeding is not possible, for whatever reason, a safe alternative must be made available. IFM member companies are committed to the principles and aim of the WHO Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, which calls for the provision of safe and adequate nutrition for infants. These principles are supported through both the protection and promotion of breastfeeding and by ensuring the proper use of breast-milk substitutes when they are necessary. IFM is an association member of the International Special Dietary Foods Industry (ISDI.)
