IFM members include both national and international companies that manufacture and market their products in all parts of the world. The organisation has operations in the USA, Canada, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Asia.
Infant food is understood to mean all foodstuffs specially adapted to meet the nutritional needs of infants and young children. Examples are infant formulae, follow-up milks, processed cereal-based weaning foods, sterilised or dehydrated baby foods, fruit and vegetable juices, dietary products for infants and young children suffering from metabolic and nutritional problems.
The principal office of any infant food manufacturers is eligible to become
a member of IFM. Principal office is defined as the policy-making centre of
a company, group of companies or companies within a group responsible for their
own policy decisions.
Each member must agree to the statutes and the internal rules, contribute to
the costs of the Association, and be approved as a member by the Executive Committee.
The basis for cost sharing is the geographical coverage of the member company’s marketing activities for the products in question. It is designed to encourage smaller companies operating only in their own domestic market to participate in the work of the Association so that IFM can be as truly representative as possible.
